It's Time To Win

The Islanders lost their fifth straight game to the Carolina Hurricanes last night by a final score of 7-2. Rick DiPietro got the start, and let in all seven Carolina goals. Rick also started last Saturday against the Flyers in a game that saw him in goal for six goals. This cannot continue. The Islanders need to win and they need to do it tonight in Ottawa.

The Isles got off to a great start, but since barely beating the Lightning in overtime exactly two weeks ago, the Islanders have looked like a last place hockey team. John Tavares got his first career hat trick against the Florida Panthers, but apparently he and goalie Dwayne Roloson were the only two players who decided to show up that night, because the Islanders still lost. That loss started the losing streak, as they then went on to lose twice to the Canadiens, they got blown out by the Flyers, and completely embarrassed by the Hurricanes last night.

The Islanders in the last two games have been beaten by a combined score of 13-3. That is disgusting. They now play a tough Senators team, and then come home on Saturday night for a rematch against the Flyers.

The Islanders need to win tonight. They cannot lose six games in a row. It cannot happen. Especially not after the start that they teased us with. The Islanders need to jump on the Sens tonight, and play like an NHL team, because last night's performance was not an NHL performance. The Isles need to at least go to overtime to show the fans that they will not accept losing. They need to win.

Saturday the Islanders face the Flyers at the Coliseum. With the economy and ticket prices the way they are, if the Isles lose tonight in Ottowa, they can expect to hear "Let's Go Flyers!" chants all night long, because no Islanders fans will show up to the game. Why spend the money to see the team lose a seventh straight game? Bottom line: the Islanders need to win tonight. The Islanders need more than a good effort tonight to make up for these last few games. They cannot six straight and expect fans to be supportive. They need to win tonight.

I'm still an Islanders fan through and through, but this cannot continue anymore.
