Is Coach Gordon's Job In Jeopardy?

As I'm searching the web today, I noticed multiple rumors regarding Islanders head coach Scott Gordon and his coaching job.

Apparently Coach Gordon's job is in jeporady and he could possibly be fired, in his last year of his contract with the Islanders. It's yet to be renewed. I don't know if it's Gordon's fault for all these losses, but all I know is something has to be done with this team. We can't go on loosing these games.

Newsday's and Islanders writer Katie Strang reports that Gordon's job is not in jeopardy, however. But how do we know? Katie never stated a source, and her source was "A person with knowledge of the situation". Something more specific would help, but then again she may just be not revealing the source out of respect.

Katie also quotes Garth Snow of the following:

“Scott is an excellent coach and we have a great relationship, but my policy has always been that any conversations between him and I stay that way”

NBC Sports also reports the same, this time being Gordon's job in "serious jeopardy".

Well, I guess we'll just have to wait and see. All I know is, and many of you know that the Islanders have to do something to win. No more loosing games. It's getting ridiculous.

Should Gordon stay or go? What do you think? Tell us in comments!

  1. I for one used THIS season to give Gordo a fair evaluation of his coaching abilities. Not even a quater into the season, its clear to me that he is NOT the right coach for this team. Perhaps not for ANY NHL team. Just because you may be a successful minor league coach does not mean you will be a successful NHL coach.
    Here is why ...
    1. He plays the same system for every team they play. Every team plays different and has different strengths and weaknesses. Why not adjust the system a bit to fit the style of the team you are playing.
    2. How many games can you count in your head that you wondered what the hell he was thinking about with the uses of timeouts? Timeouts are in the game for a reason and be very effective when utilized properly.
    3. What is the logic behind the goalie rotation? I can't help but to think this cost the team a few "W"s. Also, when has he tried to change the tempo of a game by switching out a goalie having a bad night (DP)?
    4. Where is the passion? This makes me question his leadership.
That being said, a change needs to be made. Snow is FAR from being a good GM, but we all know, he isn't going anywhere. With the Wanger not spending money along with the state of the team, a quality trade is pretty much out of the question. That leaves Flash as the odd man out in my eyes.
