Nino Niederreiter Sent Back To The WHL

Today, the big question was finally answered by the Islanders. Will Niederreiter stay on Long Island or return to the Portland Winterhawks of the WHL. The decision was made, and he returned to the WHL. El Nino, in nine games played, averaged two points, a goal and an assist. In the WHL with the Winterhawks, last season Nino netted 36 goals and 24 assists in just 65 games played.

Personally, I have to agree with the Isles on this move. Another year in the WHL will be good for him to develop. We don't have much space up front when Schremp and Okposo return as well. When Nino was asked by Chirs Botta from Islanders Point Blank on his thoughts, he stated the following:

"I had a great experience up here and I was happy to be here"

Good to see positives coming from Niederreiter and hopefully he can take those postives and bring them to the WHL. He's got great skill and just needs to work on a few things and hopefully, we'll be seeing him during the 2011-2012 season.
