DiPietro Gets the Start...Hofstra the New Radio Partner?...Rex Ryan To Drop Ceremonial Puck Before Saturday's Game

So the Islanders announced via their twitter account that Rick DiPietro will start the season opener against the Dallas Stars Saturday night at the Coliseum.

This is good news. It shows that Rick and the Isles are very confident in his health. It also shows that the Islanders know how important he is to the fans. As Chris Botta pointed out, the Isles are announcing his start 30 hours in advance of the game. Last season coach Gordon told reporters to not bother asking who would start that night's game because he wouldn't tell. This is exciting for all parties involved.

Earlier this week Chris Botta announced that the Islanders are very close to finalizing a radio deal with WRHU 88.7FM of Hofstra University. It would essentially be student run, but a veteran broadcaster would be in charge. This also would mean that there will be no more simulcasts which the fans hated.

Another quick note: Rex Ryan, head coach of the New York Jets football team will handle the ceremonial puck drop before Saturday night's season opener at the Coliseum.

Hockey season is upon us. Let's Go Islanders!
