Few notes from the Isles vs. Flames

I was rather impressed with the Islanders even in a losing effort.  There was a couple of missteps, the giveaway by Eaton that caused the first goal, and the bad clear by DiPietro that caused the 3rd goal.  Wondering if that would have happened if the defensemen coming back was someone who was used to playing with him.  I have seen DiPietro do that many times and normally the puck ends up in the neutral zone.  Other than that I thought he looked pretty good, has some rust but seemed quick and seems to have a lot of confidence.  There was some players that really stood out to me in the game.

Rhett Rhakshani-  Seems like opposing defensemen have a very difficult time getting the puck away from him.

Radek Martinek-  Looked stellar.  Not sure if I just forgot how good he is since it's been so long since I have seen him play or he has really worked hard to improve his game while rehabbing.

James Wisniewski-  Very strong with the puck and a very smart hitter.  Didn't make any huge hits but they were effective in turning over the puck.

Calvin de Haan-  Smart jumping on the offense and responsible defensively.  Great anticipation got him a goal.

Rob Schremp-  Great decision making, I didn't notice any of the reckless passes as I have seen from him in the past.

And a few on a little more minor notes, Matt Martin had a couple of really nice hits and Trevor Gilles didn't show too much, but seeing an enforcer get a tip in goal is a rarity.  Tavares looked good but nothing above expectations, Parenteau seemed to play a little too cautiously to be effective.  He seems to just be looking for the pass to Tavares when there may be an opening for him to make a nifty move and get an open shot on net.  Overall they looked good considering this was their first preseason game, could have been an Islander win without a couple very good saves by Kiprusoff, but you could say the same about some of the saves by DiPietro and a couple by Koskinen could have swung it big the other way.
