Semin To The Island?

Updated/revised
Last night it was reported by IncarceratedBob on Twitter that there was a possible deal in place that would involve the Capitals shipping winger Alexander Semin to the Islanders. I would expect goaltender Dwayne Roloson getting shipped the other way, since the Caps need a goalie and are rumored to show interest in Roloson.

We all know Roloson is wanted by many teams - especially including the Caps. If Snow gets a good offer for Roloson, I'm sure he'll trade him. But, this Semin/Isles rumor is starting to heat up and Rollie very well can be involved. No doubt he's not the only one going to Ovi's team, though. Bailey is a possible candidate as well.

Apparently, there's a deal on the table and Snow is just waiting for Wang's permission. Bob tweeted a series of tweets both last night, and this morning:

"**NHL RUMOR** Source is claiming the deal needs to be approved by WANG because Islanders will want to sign Semin ASAP."

Some may doubt his rumors, but this guy has called Scott Gordon being fired (as well as I did), Weight seeking a coaching job, and Wisniewski being traded.

**I'm also hearing that Brian Rolston - the Devils forward that was placed on re-entry waivers today - is most likely going to be claimed by the Isles. Not sure if it's 100 percent true or not, but stay tuned.***

  1. Why the heck would the Caps want a goaltender? They've got two very good young goaltenders, one of whom has performed at a playoff-level in three NHL playoff series, and the other (Neuvirth, who's a little less experienced at the NHL level) was the starter of the winning Calder Cup team in the 09-10 season.

There should be no reason for them to go looking for a new goaltender. Especially not to trade away a premiere asset like Semin for someone of Roloson's level.

  2. I agree with the first comment. Why would the Caps trade one of their best forwards who they would need for a cup run for a goalie when they have 2 capable goalies. And why would the Isles trade for a guy that they would have a nearly zero percent chance of signing for next year? Most in the know who have commented on this rumor said there is absolutely no chance of this happening. And I'm not be as quick to praise your source, he predicted the firing of a coach on a team with a 20 game losing streak and that said team would trade an impending UFA that they wouldn't be able to resign, not a big stretch on either account.

  3. I'm just reporting based on the rumors I'm hearing. Not trying to be one sided at all...

I heard the Caps have shown interest in Roloson, that's why I mentioned it. Not sure if it's 100 percent true, but rumors are rumors.
