Roloson Gone After Roster Freeze? It Appears So...

So we all know that the Islanders lost in a shootout last night to the Coyotes. Islander goals were scored by Jesse Joensuu, Michael Grabner, and Rob Schremp. The Islanders would take a lead in the game but in the end, the Coyotes came and tied it up.

You can't say the Islanders didn't play fairly well last night but losing is unacceptable. Enough is enough and this team needs to find a way to win games. They can't give up their leads coming into the third period. Even a roster shake up would probably help this team.

Rumors:

Dwayne Roloson: When it was learned that Rick DiPietro would be out for last nights game due to "minor knee swelling", many started to speculate. The reason for speculation is because not only was DiPietro on the ice practicing with two other goaltenders, but Nathan Lawson - the goaltender that was called up from Bridgeport - got the start in goal over Dwayne Roloson, a proven goaltender. That tells you somethings up. And in fact, something is up.

It appears that Roloson was alerted yesterday that he will be traded. Also, the Isles may make a package deal involving Wisniewski, Comeau and Roloson.

Coach Jack Capuano says that "Tonight it was Nate (Lawson) and tomorrow it could be someone else." Interesting...

My Take: I don't believe the Islanders will package all three. I can see Comeau and Roloson going in a deal together, but all three being packaged isn't likely unless it's something bigger in return. Teams definitely want Wisniewski I am told, as well as Roloson. Now Comeau trade talks are starting to heat up as well.

So what do you think? Is Roloson staying or being traded? Also, who do you want to be traded for who and why? Tell us in comments.

  1. Roloson has been abused on the Island, being benched amid hot streak after hot streak to make way for Rickety Ricky D. Here's hoping he becomes the final component for a team like Washington to right the ship and make a serious run... Dwayne ain't gettin' any younger, ya' hear?

  2. I hear ya. It's not right for both Roloson and DiPietro to be playing every other game. The teams interested in Rolie seem to be the Caps and the Lightning.

  3. And the Islanders wonder why they aren't winning. They were on a hot streak last year and then they brought back DiPietro and look what happens. They do it again this year and look. Roloson has been the only bright star in goal the past two years, Biron did a decent job also. But the Islander management just can't get their act together. Did you see Lawson in goal last night. Slow, very slow to react. Maybe it was nerves but my goodness. I thought these coaches were former players, what am I missing!

  4. Well if Roloson does get traded, I would assume Lawson would back DiPietro up. Also, I don't think that their problem is goaltending, look at the defense.

  5. Agree with the idea that Roli, Wiz, and Comeau aren't going in one deal. Trades like that are executed by teams on the cusp or those who have playoff futures. All three of them have independent value, which would/will reap greater rewards.

Tampa, DC, and Colorado should inquire about Roli. If Vancouver wants Blake, just offer something. Wiz is probably a more valuable chip than Roli, as long as Garth can bluff his way into another Edmonton or Ottawa deal.

  6. Do you see any players coming back for any of the players listed above?

  7. The team has played better with DiPietro in net than with Roloson. You can look at Roloson's GAA and save percentage and they are better than DiPietro's but the team plays differently in front of each goalie. As their records show, with Roloson in net the Islanders have got 5 points in 15 games, with DiPietro they have 12 points in 14 games, huge difference. Team stats mean more than individual, in that case DiPietro in net has meant more points than Roloson (0.33 ponits per game for Roloson, 0.86 ppg for DiPietro). They can afford to trade Roloson while he still has trade value, he wouldn't be back next year anyway with Koskinen and Poulin on the doorstep of the NHL.

  8. As of now all I know is that teams show interest in Roloson. They have been for a few weeks now. Also, they may want Wisniewski, who I am told may be traded. The Sharks and Blue Jackets are interested in the Wiz, and the Caps and Bolts could use Roloson. Maybe even Comeau may get traded, but it depends. Garth is on file stating he isn't going to trade for a quick fix. I believe Roloson will get dealt, and we'll see about Wisniewski and Comeau.
